Daughters of the American Revolution - James Monroe Chapter

Our DAR chapter has just celebrated its 25th birthday. It was founded February 8, 1981, at the Pine Springs Restaurant, Paris, Monroe County, Missouri, with fourteen organizing members. The chapter was named for the fifth president of the United States of America, for whom Monroe County, was named. We currently have 19 members and 2 associate members, along with several prospective members working on their lineage papers. One of our members is celebrating her 40th anniversary and two are celebrating their 25th anniversary as DAR members in 2006.

Chapter meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month (except December). Each regular meeting includes devotions, patriotic exercises, the President General's Message, and a National Defense report, along with interesting programs and delicious refreshments. Officers and members attend district and state meetings to learn more information to share with the group and plan special projects. Our chapter has provided awards and scholarships to local students for many years. In 2004 our chapter won the Missouri State Revitalization Award as well as the National Chapter Revitalization Award for rebuilding membership and enthusiasm. We look forward to future growth with more new members joining our chapter.

Please contact us at 660-327-5096 or jansc@centurytel.net if you are interested in joining DAR and would like to attend one of our meetings.
